Victoria, which is the capital city of British Columbia in Canada, we came for one weekend trip where we spent one night. Even weekend was enough for us to gain the local atmosphere, which I would describe as a combination of the old town with new opportunities. It is a place full of great shops, cafes and restaurants. What charmed us was also architecture and colorful gardens. Victoria is situated on Vancouver Island and to get there you can choose from several ways – by sea or by air. Every journey lasts approximately 4 hours except by air which takes around half an hour from Vancouver.

For transport we specifically used the services of Bc Ferries and can not complain. As soon as we left the ferry and have been transported by bus to the city center, we began to explore the beauty of the town. When approached lunchtime we went to the already pre-selected raw, vegan cafe called Cafe Bliss. The cafe is located at 556 Pandora. If you choose as a starting (the most common place) very busy place in the city, which is at 501 Belleville, where you can find the Parliament Buildings of British Columbia, it can takes you approximately 15 minutes to get to the Bliss Cafe.

Description of the cafe
CAFE BLISSThe cafe is easy to find so that we had no problem to find above address. Opening times of the cafe are from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on a daily basis. The cafe is a long narrow room, where in front of the house you can find tables and on the right side of the wall hangs a huge board with a menu that paid my attention. Enthusiastically and hungrily, I started picking my lunch. The menu is divided into juices, smoothies, iced drinks, hot drinks and food. In section – Food – are on offer raw food, but also cooked soups or some cooked food as a quinoa. If you want to select (as we did) only raw food I suggest you to read properly in order you could know what your foods contain. As we go through the cafe we see a counter where you can order food. You can also sit down there and watch how they prepare your meal while you are waiting. Notice a glass refrigerator which is full of attractive goodies such as various pies, cakes, biscuits, chocolates, as well as homemade sauerkraut. Go along the bar counter and you will see kitchen, preparation station or even storeroom? I am not sure how exactly it should be called, because it seemed to me that there was a bit of everything. Somewhat strange was that when you would like to go to washroom you must go through the kitchen and mentioned storeroom. Personally, I did not feel too comfortable to go through the kitchen to the washroom. It supposed to be only for employees, would not it?

At the same time when we were visiting the cafe it was really obvious that the cafe is more than popular. We hardly found a place to sit. Luckily everything went quickly. People did not stay long. They ate and drank what they ordered and left accordingly. There was a pleasant atmosphere and busy at the same time but I like it. It gave me the impression that I am in the right place where indulging quality food, which is a big hit nowadays.

What we ordered

CAFE BLISSBliss salad

  • Garden salad, avocado, olives, sprouts, hemp seeds
  • Multi-seed cracker
  • Choice of dressing: Bliss tahini-lemon-ginger, Sombrio orange-miso-kelp, Simple Flax oil lemon
  • My choice: Sombrio orange-miso dressing-kelp

The main ingredient was a pile of greens, which I greatly appreciate. Avocado and olives supplied distinct flavor and a feeling of fullness. Crackers were made of various kinds of seeds such as pumpkin, flax, sesame, hemp and chia seed. How else crispy dried in the dehydrator. The dressing had a sweet taste. It was very interesting and delicious. Overall, the food was rich and delicious.

CAFE BLISSSakuba salad

  • Dandelion, Asian lettuce, avocado, kimchi, local algae, various vegetables
  • Multi-seed cracker
  • Sweet Sesame dressing and honey cashew wasabi

Also like the previous salad, this one was consisted of a varied mix of vegetables. What this salad had moreover were wasabi honey cashews, which were delicious. I like the taste off the combination of sweet and hot.
